Application Forms In 2012 the Foundation is changing the way bursaries are awarded. Our Board has determined that applications for the following programs will be offered only through boarding schools situated in rural NSW but including Hurlstone Agricultural High School situated at Glenfield on the outskirts of Sydney.Secondary Boarding Bursaries for Isolated, Remote Area Students A limited number will be offered for the 2012 school year for students experiencing financial hardship who must also receive either the Federal Government’s AIC (Assistance for Isolated Children) allowance or the State Government’s LAFHA (Living Away From Home Allowance) allowances or both. The State Government LAFHA means test applies. Where allowances exceed boarding costs, applications will be disallowed, except that the Board of the Foundation may consider some tuition support in lieu of boarding support. They are valid for 1 school year. Students receiving BSIS (Boarding Scholarships for Isolated Students) applicable for certain Agricultural High boarders are ineligible to apply. For 2012, the bursary is valued at $1,000. The Application Form will be available from the school in November 2011 for submission by 10 February 2012. “Thru-to-Uni” Scholarships These are merit based scholarships designed to assist boarding students in Year 11 and/ or Year 12 experiencing financial hardship who have university entry as their goal. The same conditions apply as above and schools will be required to provide performance results, subject to parental approval. A limited number of scholarships will be available for 2012.The value of these scholarships for 2012-2013 is $2,000 p.a. plus $1,000 as a “Start Up Grant” payable on entry to any Australian based, accredited university within 12 months of a placement offer. Current awardees on the 2 year cycle are unaffected by criteria changes. The Application Form will be available from the school in November 2011 for submission by 10 February 2012. “Thru-to-TAFE” Scholarships This is a new scholarship category designed to assist in the payment of TVET fees for isolated boarding students in Years 10,11,12 studying a TAFE approved course concurrently with the senior curriculum and experiencing financial hardship. Consideration may be given to students in Agricultural Boarding Schools who commence TAFE studies in Year 10 for that year only. Again, the student must be in receipt of AIC or LAFHA allowance or both and the State Government LAFHA means test applies. Schools will be required to provide an aptitude statement, subject to parent approval. Current awardees are unaffected. For 2012, the scholarship is valued at $600 p.a.
